Yes. 3D secure functionality was activated on 1st July 2007.

Why am I redirected to my debit card issuer's bank site?
During your Amex Pay bill journey, we will advise you on the Pay Bill verification page, in the event your debit card issuer has requested that you authenticate your debit card details. This is a request made by your debit card issuer and not dictated by American Express. For added security your debit card issuer requires to authenticate your debit card details prior to proceeding with your online bill payment. You will be sent to your issuer's site temporarily. Once the authentication is completed you will be returned to the American Express site to continue your payment process. Please complete your debit card authentication within 10 minutes in order to keep your American Express session active. In the event you are logged out, your online payment will not be processed.

What is 3-D Secure, 'Verified by Visa' or 'MasterCard Secure Code'?
3-D Secure is an additional authentication process to ensure online transactions made using a specific debit card account are being initiated by the debit card holders themselves. For added security, the bank issuing your debit card requires you to complete your bank's authentication process prior to proceeding with your online transaction. 3D Secure can be thought of as an online version of 'Chip and Pin' technology, whereby the cardholder has a personalised password registered with their card that is entered during the online process.

How do I activate 3-D Secure on My debit card?
This is a one time process, the timing of which will be dictated by your debit card issuer. Registration will take place on your debit card issuer's website and will involve you answering several security questions to which only the card issuer and yourself will know the answer. You will be asked to select a password which will then be requested by the card issuer during each online transaction. If you have any issues during the 3D registration process, please contact your bank that has issued your debit card.

How do I enter my 3-D Secure password during my Amex Pay Bill Online journey?
If your debit card is 3-D secure registered and your bank issuer has requested that you be authenticated, once you have entered the amount you wish to pay you will be automatically re-directed to your debit card issuers web-site where you will be asked to enter your unique 3-D Secure password. Once your debit card issuer has confirmed the correct password has been entered you will be automatically directed back to the appropriate American Express web page to complete the transaction.

What If I have forgotten my 3-D Secure password?
If you are unable to recall your 3-D Secure password, the process to retrieve it and complete the transaction will be dictated by your debit card issuer. If you have any issues during the 3D authentication process on your bank issuer's site, please contact your bank that has issued your debit card.

What happens if my American Express session expires during my 3-D Secure authentication?
If your American Express session is left inactive for more than 10 minutes, you will be required to log back into the American Express Online Services. In the case that this happens during the payment process, then your payment will not be processed and you will need to complete the payment again. A payment is considered processed only once you receive a payment confirmation on your American Express Payment Thank You page. Please complete your debit card authentication within 10 minutes in order to keep your American Express session active.
